Gulam Mohammed Mirashi, affectionately known as “Uncle”, has been my singing and harmonium teacher since 1996. He is a classically trained Indian musician, gifted as both a brilliant vocalist and harmonium player, and a teacher who can impart his knowledge with extreme kindness and patience. He is the seventh generation of his vocal line, drawing from the Agra Gharana as well as regional influences from his native Rajasthan. The songs below are mostly melodies he taught me, and other melodies I learned while studying in India and the United States.
He teachers monthly singing classes at The Shala Yoga. Go to www.theshala.com to find dates and times.
